#6 Learning culture and psychological safety - Philippe Ammann & Georg Wolfgang

The sixth podcast episode is a highlight for Philippe Ammann - and hopefully for you too! Philippe is a guest on the Culturizer podcast hosted by Georg Wolfgang, who guides us through the conversation with a great deal of empathy and knowledge. Georg does a wonderful job of picking up on Philippe's topics, developing them further and adding to them. An exciting conversation about Philippe's path to becoming a pilot, his experiences in aviation and how these can be transferred to topics such as corporate culture, teamwork and leadership. Philippe shares his impressive career spanning over 30 years of experience, during which he has circumnavigated the globe more than 300 times, performed over 3000 soft landings and made (perhaps) only one pilot error. Philippe's career began in the military, where he started gliding before becoming a captain on long-haul flights with Swiss Airlines. He emphasizes the importance of Crew Resource Management (CRM) and Human Factors in aviation and how these concepts can help improve teamwork and leadership in other industries. Philippe also shares personal experiences and insights on how the culture in the military and at Swiss Airlines has shaped his view on leadership and teamwork. The focus of the conversation is on the transferability of aviation principles to corporate contexts, particularly with regard to safety, error culture and psychological safety in teams. Philippe explains how an open dialog and the involvement of all team members can contribute to error prevention and why it is important to learn from mistakes instead of punishing them. This episode offers deep insights into the parallels between aviation and the corporate world and emphasizes the importance of effective communication, teamwork and a positive error culture for success in both fields. #5 Leadership - What connects an airline captain with a ship's captain?

#5 Leadership - What connects an airline captain with a ship's captain?

Leadership - What does an airline captain have in common with a ship's captain? Today we have a very special interview with two captains, recorded on the bridge of the Havila Castor on a voyage to the Norwegian Lofoten Islands. The interview is in English. You can also find it as a movie on the Youtube channel of Pilot Impuls. On the one hand, we have Captain Philippe Ammann, an experienced airline captain who has spent countless hours in the air. And on the other hand, we welcome Captain Björn Pedersen, who has many years of experience as a ship's captain in his backpack. Björn is the captain of the MS Havila Castor, which will only enter service in 2022 and sails the Norwegian coastal route. Together, they talk about topics that connect their professions - responsibility, leadership, the challenges they face every day and, of course, the incomparable joy they find in their jobs. Both captains have gained extensive experience in their jobs and are committed to excellent leadership and professionalism on a daily basis. For both of them, safety is the top priority, which they achieve through a people-centered management style. It is important to them that they are perceived as approachable. Both are convinced that teams in which employees dare to think openly and honestly are more motivated, more productive and safer. In this captivating conversation, we delve deeper into the parallels between the job of an airline captain and a ship captain. We learn how both captains deal with the responsibility that rests on their shoulders. They give us insights into how they inspire and lead their crews to overcome challenges that arise in their dynamic environments. And last but not least, they talk about what they enjoy most about their jobs. Enjoy the fascinating exchange of ideas between Captain Philippe Ammann and Captain Björn Pedersen.
